Why You Should Run for Lupus.
Lupus is a debilitating autoimmune disease for which there is no cure. It primarily affects women in their child-bearing years (15-45) and is 2-3 times more likely to affect women of color. Lupus can affect any organ of the body, often attacking the kidneys, heart, lungs, and brain. The disease often manifests itself in chronic fatigue, joint pain, and a characteristic butterfly shaped rash across the nose and cheeks.
Those living with lupus often feel alone and misunderstood because they don’t “look sick.” Lupus symptoms vary incredibly from person to person and therefore it can take years and multiple doctors to diagnose and then find the correct treatment.
Please help us put a face on this invisible disease. Help us make lupus a household name by Running for Lupus.
If you join the Run for Lupus Team you will receive...
Guaranteed entry into the Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K, or Team Relay at the Baltimore Running Festival (a sold out event).
Fundraising support including a personalized webpage, fundraising manual, pre-formed soliciation and thank you letters and professional support from fundraising staff.

Plus, you'll meet a group of runners who will motivate and inspire you.
In exchange, Lupus Runners will: Raise funds to support our mission and benefit patient services programs including Patient Navigation, Support Groups, Education Seminars, Symposia, Education Resources, Referrals, and 1:1 support for patients and families.
Secure your spot for Team Lupus 2011 by committing to reach the following fundraising goals (runners can choose to make the entire donation themselves).
Full Marathon: $300 (must be 16 years of age or older)
Half Marathon: $150 (must be 14 years of age or older)
5K: $100
Team Relay: $400 (must be 14 years of age or older)

Fees - $95 for Marathon; $85 for Half; $220/team or $55/person for Relay; $35 for 5K.
Non refundable registration fee to cover basic expenses. Then you commit to raise minimum in pledges or donations to benefit the Lupus Foundation of America, DC/MD/VA Chapter.
